Halloween costumes?

Okay, so I remember looking at Yo Blogga Blogga last year and seeing some killer YGG Halloween costumes that people had made.

I'd love to make a Foofa costume for my daughter this year - does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

I was thinking of trying to use a pink hooded sweatshirt (maybe one that's a little too big) and somehow stuffing it to make it round, then sewing eyes and a flower on the top of the hood. And maybe I could make the scalloped collar around her neck out of felt? The main thing I'm trying to figure out is how to make the body nice and round. Kinda stumped.

Is anyone else attempting to make a costume that will hopefully half-way resemble one of the characters?!

WOW! These ideas are great! I've been searching all day for yo gabba gabba halloween costumes! This sounds easy enough for me to make. You guys rock!

Not sure how old/big your daughter is.. but maybe you could put a small blowup inner-tube floatie thing around her middle, underneath the sweatshirt? They are definitely on clearance this time of year!

Thank you, Thank you for your post!!!

My daughter just changed her mind from dressing like Olivia (from the books) to Foofa and it's thrown me for a loop. I didn't even think of a hoodie - thank you for that idea!

My newborn son will be dressed as Brobee (per his sister's request) so that's easy with a jumper and striping and a little hat with horns. Not sure if I'll do the unibrow ... but considering his face normally goes from happy smile to frown, he'll have the Brobee personality down pat. ; )

Oh my gosh, that is such a good idea! Especially if you use an over-sized sweatshirt and pair it with either pink tights or pink sweats (depending on the weather).

To get the round shape, I would layer it with a t-shirt that fits your daughter, then the sweatshirt. Sew the bottoms together, and then you can stuff the bottom of the sweatshirt with Poly-fil fiber found at the craft store. Of course, you might want to put a few stitches in at the shoulders so that the shoulders are together, making it easy to pull over her head on Halloween!

You might not even need to sew on eyes, just let her cute little face be Foofa's face, and put a big silk flower on top!

I hope after Halloween you'll show us some pictures of your costume! I would love to see whatever it is you decide to do!

Thanks for your ideas - it worked out really well and looks soooo cute for our Halloween party on Wednesday. I will try to get a better photo of the whole costume but I just used a pink sweat suit and pink felt. I stuffed the sweatshirt with poly fill like you suggested and it worked perfectly. THANKS!

you are brilliant! Your idea is perfect (even for a not-so-awesome sewer like myself.) I can totally do that!

So stoked.

I'll post photos when it's all done - thanks so much for your help.

I was planning on using a tele-tubbie pattern to make foofa. Not sure it it will work, but giving it a try.

Notable Quotes

"My kids [Stella, 22 months, and Liam, 3] are obsessed with Yo Gabba Gabba! It's a dream to guest on the show and do a dance-y dance!"

-Tori Spelling, actress

"I love YO GABBA GABBA. I don't care what you say, DJ Lance, Muno, Brobee, Foofa, Toodee and Plex have taught my daughter many valuable lessons--like the desirability of napping, for one. Not to throw objects at Daddy's skull. Not biting. The value of 'trying again' and 'not giving up.' All set to surprisingly weird, offbeat songs which--in another venue and with other lyrics, one might find oneself enjoying at a club. They get good indie bands as guests, and Mark Mothersbaugh of DEVO is a regular. I know every song and every lyric by heart."

-Anthony Bourdain, host of No Reservations
