Kellie made this awesome DJ Lance boombox cake for her daughter's birthday!

Kellie writes:

This was a cake that I made for my daughter's 3rd birthday. I made a simple 9x13 sheet cake and made fondant to make the boombox. I used a 5 figure set I got from Toys-R-Us for the characters.

It took me hours to get it all right but I was pleased with the results. I still have food coloring on my hands from mixing the fondant.

My daughter LOVED it!

I am making a cake for my sons birthday and I was wondering how did you get your fondant to be silver??

Hello, thank you for the kind words. It took me awhile to get it all together and I am a meticulous person when it comes to detail. I actually just made the fondant gray and took a clean paintbrush and LIGHTLY went over it with water....very, very lightly. It allowed it to look a little shiny so it wasn't so matte. I made the fondant homemade using marshmallows which allowed it to taste really good. I bought black food coloring in the gel/paste style and started using a little and mixed it like play-do. I hope that helps. It wasn't really hard, just time consuming.
