Hi, I am fairly new to Gabbafriends.com and totally stoked on how awesome it is. I love to get crafty and all these amazing creative people inspired me to get busy. Yo Gabba Gabba! has probably the cutest and coolest little characters ever but I thought it would be cute to attempt to make a flying toast for my 19 month old son Emilio who is responsible for our family Yo Gabba Gabba! addiction. It actually turned out pretty cute I must say, lol. I never use patterns, I just wing it, hahahah..........so here it goes.

Materials needed:

-sewing machine
-hand needle
-scissors
-felt in the following colors:
toast- cream on back (I switched it up with the colors because I didn't have enough, lol... but it ended up giving it good dimension.)
very lt brown on front
drk brown on edges

wings- lt purple on front
drk purple on back

eyes- white and black

mouth- black and white

-stuffing
-thread to match the felt you are sewing
-white paper for tracing stencils (I always trace or draw on paper first and then cut them out and use as stencils.)
-sharpie to trace on felt (lightest color possible is the best)
-items to trace if needed

First I used a sandwich shaped Tupperware container to trace the toast but I made it a little bigger. {Any size would be cute, just account for the sewing part because it makes it smaller.) I am sure you could use bread too. I thought the curve of the bread really made the difference that is why I did this instead of a square. I traced this on two pieces of felt ( the cream and light brown). Then I cut out the shapes of the toast. Then cut 4 strips of drk brown felt approx. 2 -2 1/2 inches wide and length a bit longer than the length of the toast. Like I said I wing it so I just laid the pieces down and guesstimated.

I drew bat wings on a blank sheet of paper, following the shape of the bat wings the flying toast has. (I just looked at the block from one of his toys and again winged it.) I then cut out the paper wing and used it as a stencil for the felt (again account for sewing because it will make your wings smaller). I traced this on the light and drk purple felt and then after cutting out the shapes I sewed the two colors of felt together following the outline I traced (traced sides facing out). You will do this twice so you have two wings. Then turn your wings inside out and stuff both wings you have sewn leaving a little empty at the open edges so you can sew it to the toast.

Cut out 2 white felt eyes (I used the inside of a scissor handle I had that was slightly oval). Cut out 2 black felt pupils. Then cut out a black felt mouth and a white felt tooth. Again I just looked at the picture and winged it.

Then I pinned the drk brown strips to the edges of the toast (the side of the toast without the outline). This way you will have a clean finish with no pin marks once you are finished and turn it inside out. I did this on all 4 sides of the toast. I then sewed these 4 sides following the trace pattern I had drawn on the sandwich side. I did the same thing with the other toast cutout leaving part of the bottom open so I could then turn it inside out and stuff it. Then while the material is still inside out you need to sew the corners. After all sides are attached (except for the middle of the of the bottom of the toast left open for stuffing) you can then turn it right side out.

I then figured out where I wanted the wings and cut a slit in the middle of the drk brown sides of toast. Put the part of the open wings you left unstuffed into the slits you cut and turned the toast inside out enough to sew it to your toast slits (the wings will keep you from turning it all the way inside out).

You can now turn your toast right side out again and place the eyes, pupils, mouth and tooth where u want them. Pin these in place and hand sew.

You are now ready to stuff your toast. Once you have it stuffed you can hand sew the bottom hole that was left open.

Wallah! You have a flying toast. I hope I explained this clear enough to follow. Thank you so much for looking :)

Notable Quotes

"My kids [Stella, 22 months, and Liam, 3] are obsessed with Yo Gabba Gabba! It's a dream to guest on the show and do a dance-y dance!"

-Tori Spelling, actress

"I love YO GABBA GABBA. I don't care what you say, DJ Lance, Muno, Brobee, Foofa, Toodee and Plex have taught my daughter many valuable lessons--like the desirability of napping, for one. Not to throw objects at Daddy's skull. Not biting. The value of 'trying again' and 'not giving up.' All set to surprisingly weird, offbeat songs which--in another venue and with other lyrics, one might find oneself enjoying at a club. They get good indie bands as guests, and Mark Mothersbaugh of DEVO is a regular. I know every song and every lyric by heart."

-Anthony Bourdain, host of No Reservations
